When to Use Make-Up Sponges?
The beauty of a make-up sponge is that it can be used to apply pretty much anything onto your face such as foundation, concealer, primer, BB cream and even cream highlighter. The use of this humble applicator is an easy way to apply your make-up by following these simple steps.
Firstly – Wet the Sponge
Remember when you were a kid with a face painting kit and you always had to wet the sponge before applying face paint? Well this is exactly the same concept. Why do you need to do this?
If you would like your foundation to be applied onto your face this is fundamental, otherwise your make-up will be entirely absorbed by the sponge. Don’t be afraid to completely soak the sponge in water as this actually makes the application easier. Afterwards, be sure to squeeze out any excess water, then your sponge is ready to be used.
Application:
Sponges are very different to your usual foundation brush as it is important not to drag them across your skin. Why? Your make-up will appear messy and show all the obvious lines where you have applied the product.
The best advice with a make-up sponge is to dab when applying your make-up, this helps to blend everything together creating a complete and even application. The top of the sponge is thinner which is perfectly designed to access those hard to reach places, such as under the eyes to ensure your foundation or concealer is applied evenly across your skin.
Cleaning:
Differing to make-up brushes, sponges require cleaning after every use not only for hygiene but also to ensure the sponge remains an effective applicator. When left, the make-up dries into the sponge which can be unpleasant when re-applying fresh foundation to the skin. The most efficient way to clean your sponge is with a small mixture of shampoo and warm water.
Follow these steps when cleaning your sponge: 1) Rinse with clean warm Water
2) Apply mild Soap / Shampoo and gently press to remove product stains
3) Either air dry or use a towel to suck out any trace of moisture
